Prophet Isa El-Buba, the General Overseer of El-Buba Outreach Ministries, has spoken out against Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir over remarks attributed to him concerning Christians and the proposed Muslim-Muslim political arrangement.
Jingir reportedly stated in a video making the rounds online that Nigerians who were opposed to a Muslim-Muslim ticket should leave the country. He was also reported to have described Nigeria as belonging to Muslims and referred to Christians as “infidels.”
Reacting to the development, El-Buba expressed concern that such statements could worsen religious tensions, particularly at a time when northern Nigeria is already struggling with insecurity, poverty, banditry, drug abuse, criminal activities and the displacement of residents.
In a video posted on his X account on Monday, the Christian cleric appealed to Nigerians to prioritise peaceful coexistence rather than deepen divisions along religious lines.
El-Buba said he was speaking out because he believed religious leaders should be helping Nigerians find ways to live together peacefully, regardless of their faith.
He said: “I’m coming to every Nigerian with a very serious, heavy heart, because I thought that at this stage of our lives, especially when we’re getting older, we should begin to think about Nigeria and how we can all live together in peace.”
He further revealed that his support for people in northern Nigeria had extended across religious lines, noting that he had assisted more than 10,000 Muslims despite having no personal relationship with them.
“As of today, I have supported over 10,000 Muslims across northern Nigeria. They have no relationship with me at all, whether it is the school of their children, whether it is their housekeeping, it is home issues and all of that,” he said..
