Jason Arday, a former professor at the University of Cambridge, has died at the age of 41 after recently resigning from his academic position.
Arday was found unresponsive at an address in Battersea, London, on Friday afternoon.
He had stepped down the previous week from his position as professor of sociology of education at Cambridge, a role he assumed in 2023 after becoming the university’s youngest Black professor.
His death came amid controversy over allegations concerning his academic credentials and aspects of his personal history. Reports had accused him of plagiarising sections of his PhD thesis completed at Liverpool John Moores University.
Other aspects of his background had also been questioned, including claims that he completed a 600-mile run in six days and helped raise millions of pounds for charity.
His family, who said they were shocked by his death, also claimed that Arday had been subjected to what they described as a “campaign of misinformation.”
