Tottenham Hotspur have named Roberto De Zerbi, former manager of Brighton and Marseille, as their new head coach.
De Zerbi has signed a five-year contract, becoming the club’s third coach of the season after Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.
The Italian’s first challenge will be to keep Spurs in the Premier League, with the Europa League champions currently just one point above the relegation zone and seven games remaining.
Reports suggest the 46-year-old initially preferred to wait until the summer before taking charge, but Tottenham convinced him to assume the role immediately.
Sporting Director Johan Lange commented: “Roberto was our number one target for the summer and we are very pleased to be able to bring him in now. He is one of the most creative and forward-thinking coaches in world football and brings with him a wealth of experience at the highest level, including in the Premier League.”
