Suspected gunmen have attacked a poultry farm in Igushi community, near Akure in Ondo State, killing a woman and her daughter while abducting three other workers.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday when the armed men invaded the farm and gained entry by scaling the perimeter fence. They were said to have initially attempted to abduct workers before opening fire during the operation.

Community sources said the attackers operated in numbers and forcefully took away three workers from the scene after killing the farm owner and her daughter.

A resident, who asked not to be named, described how the attack unfolded.

“The gunmen came through the fence. They were about five and took three people away. Later, we found the woman who owns the poultry and her daughter dead.

“We quickly called the police and the Amotekun, who mobilised their men to the scene. They’ve later rescued the victims.”

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Abayomi Jimoh, described the attack as tragic and assured that security agencies were working to apprehend those responsible.

He said the command strongly condemned the incident, adding that efforts were ongoing to rescue victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
