President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday drew laughter at the commissioning of the Nigeria Revenue Service building after making a playful remark directed at Senate President Godswil Akpabio.
During his speech at the ceremony, Tinubu joked about assigning the Senate President to represent him elsewhere, saying he would handle matters in his own characteristic manner.
“Senate President, I will send you to the other side to represent me, and then you can scatter them anyway you like. They’re confused,” the President said.
The remark quickly became a talking point, coming at a period of heightened political tension involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of moves aimed at destabilising its structure and operations.
The ADC has also raised concerns over alleged difficulties in securing venues for its activities, claiming it faced intimidation. However, the allegation was dismissed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who rejected the claim on Monday.
