President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a N15 billion take-off grant to kickstart the project.

According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the approval is part of efforts to expand the academy beyond its main campus in Wudil, Kano, in line with the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021.

The new campus is expected to boost police training capacity across the country, with funding to be drawn from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. The funds will be used for critical infrastructure, including lecture halls, hostels, and training equipment.

The decision on the siting of the campus in Erinja was reached after a high-level consultation involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.

The project is expected to strengthen police education and training capacity while also contributing to development in the host community.
