The Federal Government has brought a 13-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against individuals accused of allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Those charged include a retired Major-General, a retired naval captain, a serving police inspector, and three other suspects.

The case follows the conclusion of investigations by security agencies into an alleged coup attempt targeting the government. Authorities said about 40 people were initially linked to the suspected plot.

According to the investigation, 16 military officers were arrested over alleged direct involvement in the plan, while two civilians were picked up for reconnaissance activities. Two other suspects were allegedly recruited to mobilise civil unrest that was intended to create justification for the plot, and five individuals were said to be connected to suspected funding routes.
