President Bola Tinubu has named Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who is said to have stepped down to focus on political plans ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as part of a reshuffle aimed at strengthening the country’s diplomatic leadership.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to now head the ministry fully, continuing Nigeria’s ongoing foreign policy engagements and international relations work.
In a separate decision, Tinubu nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending confirmation by the Senate.
Enikanolaiye previously worked as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He is a long-serving diplomat with more than three decades in Nigeria’s foreign service and has held several top positions, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His career has also included diplomatic postings in cities such as Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi, giving him broad experience in global diplomacy and international cooperation.
According to the presidency, the appointments are part of efforts to reorganise Nigeria’s foreign policy structure, improve coordination, and strengthen the country’s engagement with international partners.
