Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Jalam, Chairman of the Information and Publicity Committee of the Bauchi State Pilgrims Welfare Board for the 2026 Hajj operation, has died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, after a brief illness.

He reportedly passed away at Al-Noor Hospital in Makkah, where he was receiving treatment. His death was confirmed on Sunday morning by the Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Before his passing, Jalam was serving as a Permanent Secretary in the office of the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government (SSG).

During the ongoing Hajj exercise, he played a key role in coordinating accommodation for Bauchi pilgrims in Saudi Arabia and also served as secretary of the committee responsible for feeding arrangements.

Reports indicate he died on Saturday night after falling ill shortly after arriving in Makkah from Madina, where he had earlier received medical attention and was discharged.

A former Director of Operations of the Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board and State Coordinator for the 2026 Hajj, Alhaji Sabiu Barau Ningi, confirmed his death, noting that he had complained of feeling unwell shortly after the Madina trip.

According to Ningi, the deceased had actively participated in coordinating logistics for pilgrims, including members of the advance team, up until the arrival of the final batch in Makkah.
