The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that no case of Ebola Virus Disease has been recorded in Nigeria.
The agency, however, assured that it is closely monitoring ongoing outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as well as cases reported in Uganda that are linked to cross-border transmission.
It urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid spreading misinformation, and strictly observe preventive measures such as regular handwashing, avoiding contact with bodily fluids of sick persons, and staying away from bushmeat and dead animals.
The NCDC also advised the public to promptly report any unusual illness to the nearest health facility and rely only on verified health information from official sources.
Healthcare workers were urged to maintain a high level of alertness, especially when handling patients showing symptoms consistent with Ebola and a relevant travel history.
In a public health advisory, NCDC Director-General Dr Jide Idris said health authorities in both DRC and Uganda have activated emergency response systems to contain the outbreak.
He explained that the agency is working with relevant stakeholders, including the Port Health Services under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, to strengthen surveillance and preparedness across Nigeria amid rising regional movement.
Idris added that Nigeria continues to intensify monitoring efforts to prevent any possible importation of the virus while maintaining surveillance for Ebola and other epidemic-prone diseases nationwide.
