The Oyo State Police Command says it is aware of a viral video showing abducted school staff in the state pleading for help.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed this on Sunday during a phone conversation with The PUNCH, saying investigations have already begun.
In the trending video, a woman who identified herself as Mrs Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Esinele, appealed for help. She said she and several staff members and students were abducted by unknown gunmen in Oyo State.
Reacting to inquiries about the video, Olayinka said the police are currently looking into the matter.
“I have seen the video, we are working on it,” he said.
When asked if the video was authentic, he added, “I cannot confirm that to you. The same way you have been seeing it, that is how we have been seeing it too. We are working on it.”
The incident comes days after reports that armed men invaded a secondary school in the Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area and abducted the principal and some students.
In the video, the woman said the attack happened on Friday around 9:30 a.m.
