Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has lost his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 election in Bauchi State.

Tuggar, who resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet on March 30 to fully focus on his governorship ambition, was defeated at the party primaries by former Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar.

The APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee, led by retired AIG John Abang, announced the outcome on Saturday morning.

Abang declared Abubakar the winner after he polled a total of 57,517 votes, defeating Tuggar and five other aspirants in the contest.

Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro scored 13,638 votes.

Other aspirants in the race included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who recorded 13,648 votes, Kabir Baba Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi who polled 7,181 votes.
