The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Eid ul-Adha.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the declaration reflects the government’s recognition of the religious significance of Eid ul-Adha to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the world.

Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, describing the festival as one rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for others.

He also urged Nigerians to use the period for prayer and reflection, while seeking divine guidance for the nation as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and development.

The statement added that the government’s message was anchored on unity, brotherhood, and peaceful coexistence among all citizens.
