Nigerian filmmaker and cleric Mike Bamiloye has defended Pastor E.A. Adeboye following criticism from some Nigerians who urged the RCCG General Overseer to join or lead protests over the country’s worsening insecurity.
Bamiloye said it was unreasonable for people to expect an 84-year-old spiritual leader to take part in street demonstrations against the government, stressing that his assignment is rooted in spiritual leadership rather than political activism.
He also addressed claims that Adeboye once led protests during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, explaining that such actions were not personally initiated but were carried out in line with directives from Christian bodies like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
According to him, the primary responsibility of church leaders is to pray for peace and stability in the country and seek divine intervention in governance issues rather than engage directly in protests.
Bamiloye added that this position aligns with biblical teachings that encourage intercession for national leadership and peaceful society.
