A new twist has emerged in the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, with reports indicating that the kidnappers are now demanding a ₦1 billion ransom alongside the implementation of Sharia law as conditions for the release of the victims.
The development was reportedly disclosed by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, who said the abductors had gone beyond financial demands to include political and ideological conditions in their negotiations.
According to the report, the kidnappers are insisting that Sharia law be adopted in Oyo State as part of their terms, a demand that has raised fresh concerns about the direction of the case and its broader security implications.
The abductors are also said to have listed additional requirements, including cash, food supplies, vehicles, and the release of suspects allegedly detained in Oyo and Ibadan.
They are specifically demanding ₦1 billion to be paid into a bank account in the Republic of Benin, as well as two Toyota Hilux vehicles and the release of individuals they claim are connected to their network.
