President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, the former Defence spokesperson who died while in the custody of terrorists.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said he was saddened and shocked by the tragic loss of the senior military officer.

Tinubu described the late General Rabe as a highly respected officer who served Nigeria with distinction throughout his military career. He sympathised with the deceased’s family, especially his wife, who is still being held by the abductors.

The President also conveyed his condolences to the government and people of Katsina State as well as the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“While the terrorists have done their worst, the government will never bow to their demand to release their members held by our security agencies,” Tinubu declared.

Restating his administration’s resolve to defeat insecurity, the President reiterated the warning he issued during his June 12 address.

“Bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror should now surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State.

“These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. And no mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” Tinubu said.

He assured Nigerians that the country would eventually overcome terrorism and insurgency, urging citizens to remain united in the fight against criminal groups.

“General Abubakar’s death should further serve as a defining moment in our battle against terrorists and insurgents.

“We must never negotiate with them on any terms, but continue to treat them as the greatest enemies of our dear nation who should never be spared,” Tinubu stated.
