The Kwara State Government has banned all public and private schools in the state from holding graduation, valedictory, or end-of-session ceremonies for students.
The directive was issued in a letter signed by Mrs Bunmi Osanupin, a Director in the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe. The letter was addressed to the Chairman of the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Raheem Adaramaja, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
According to the government, the decision was taken in response to prevailing security concerns and the need to ensure safety, order, and discipline within school environments across the state.
The ministry instructed all school owners, principals, headteachers, and administrators to strictly comply with the new directive, warning that any institution found violating the order would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing regulations.
It added that all stakeholders are expected to adhere fully to the policy moving forward.
