Police in Abia State have arrested the man allegedly seen assaulting a woman in a video that recently went viral on social media.

The suspect was apprehended on Saturday by operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) of the Abia State Police Command during an operation around the Ogbor Hill area of Aba.

According to the police, the arrest was made after officers received credible intelligence about the suspect’s whereabouts. Acting promptly on the information, the team led by CSP Emeka Amanchukwu tracked him down and took him into custody.

The VCRU said it remains committed to ensuring that individuals involved in violent crimes are identified and prosecuted, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and useful information.

The arrest follows an earlier announcement by the Abia State Police Command that it had launched an investigation into the viral footage.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, had confirmed that the Command was looking into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify everyone connected to the case.

The police assured the public that justice would be pursued and that acts of violence would not be tolerated in the state.
