Elder Adeniyi Adetunji, father of the embattled Adeniyi Adeyemi, says he has been devastated since learning about the allegations against his son, describing the situation as deeply shocking.
Adeyemi is being investigated by the police over the disappearance of the controversial Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), agencies the Presidency insists do not exist.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba, Elder Adetunji claimed police officers stormed his home by jumping over the fence before rushing into the compound after he opened the gate for them. He said the officers searched the premises, left around 1 p.m., returned about 90 minutes later, and came back again the following day looking for his son.
According to him, the police only informed him that Adeyemi was a wanted man but did not explain the allegations against him.
He said he told the officers that his son worked with the government in Abuja, although he was unaware of the exact nature of his job.
“I only know he works with the government in Abuja. He has never been a troublesome person,” he said.
The elder Adetunji added that he has struggled emotionally since the incident, saying the reports surrounding his son have left him in shock. He also revealed that Adeyemi visited him about a week before the police arrived but never disclosed where he lived beyond saying he was based in Abuja.
For months, Adeyemi publicly presented himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC, appearing in photographs with several prominent Nigerians. However, the Presidency has denied appointing him, insisting the agency does not exist.
The controversy has led to legal action against Adeyemi, who has also accused the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior government officials of attempting to frustrate his activities after he allegedly refused to pay bribes.
