Veteran Nollywood actor Roy De Nani has opened up about the deep personal pain and hardship he has faced over the years, revealing how financial struggles and lack of support from others worsened some of the most tragic moments of his life.
Speaking on the Where Is The Lie Podcast, the actor said poverty cost him the lives of his children, explaining that he could not afford urgent medical treatment when they needed blood transfusions.
“I lost my son and daughter because we needed blood transfusions so they could continue but there was no money to buy it and they died,” he said.
He also disclosed that he lost a brother from the same father, adding that no one from the movie industry came around to sympathise or support him during the period of mourning.
“I had a brother of the same father; I lost him and no single actor showed up,” he said.
When asked if any Nollywood colleagues reached out to him during those difficult times, he said he received no form of support.
“No way; they never came. They were not touched,” he said.
Despite everything he has been through, Roy De Nani said he has continued to remain active in Nollywood, still involved in acting and writing scripts.
“I still act. I still write scripts too,” he said.
He explained that he is not the type to publicly ask for financial assistance, but simply wishes for an opportunity to rebuild his life and career.
“I am the shy type. I just believe everyone has what they are suffering from one thing or the other. I want to be re-established. That is all,” he said.
Roy De Nani is part of the veteran generation that played a role in shaping the early development of Nigeria’s Nollywood industry.
