Veteran Nollywood actress and politician Hilda Dokubo has ignited fresh reactions after weighing in on what she described as a shrinking space for free expression in Nigeria.
The actress took to Instagram to share her thoughts, suggesting that speaking out has now become risky in the country.
She wrote:
“There is a new crime in Nigeria, it’s called speaking up. All you need to be guilty is a sound mind and a voice of truth”
Her comment comes amid the controversy surrounding the arrest and continued detention of social media personality Justice Crack, which has sparked debates online about freedom of speech and the actions of security agencies.
Although Dokubo did not directly mention him, many have linked her statement to the ongoing situation, interpreting it as a subtle reaction to his case.
Her post has since drawn mixed reactions, with some Nigerians backing her stance while others argue over the balance between national security and the right to speak freely.
