Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed security agencies to arrest Kazeem Oyewole, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, over the violent clashes that erupted at motor parks in Osogbo.
The governor’s directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, following unrest at the Old Garage and Ilesa Garage motor parks that forced traders and commuters to flee after gunshots rang out.
Adeleke strongly condemned the violence, accusing Asiri Eniba and his supporters of attacking people and creating fear among residents and road users.
“I have personally called the attention of the Inspector-General of Police and other service chiefs to these open attacks on public peace. I demand the immediate arrest of Asiri Eniba for this open defiance of public security,” the governor said.
He further alleged that some police officers escorted Asiri Eniba and his associates as they moved around motor parks across the state.
Questioning the reason behind the attacks, Adeleke noted that innocent members of the public had become victims of the unrest.
The governor also warned that his administration could reconsider its support for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) if the crisis persists.
He urged the Osun NURTW leadership, led by Nurudeen Alowonle, to restore discipline and maintain peace among its members.
