Isaac Fayose has urged his elder brother, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, to decline his appointment as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and instead hand the position to his son.
Reacting in an Instagram video on Monday, Isaac argued that the appointment was too small for someone of his brother’s political stature after the Presidency named Ayo Fayose among 26 new chairmen of federal agencies and commissions.
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Ayo Fayose was appointed chairman of the REA board alongside Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, while the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors retained their positions.
Questioning the appointment, Isaac said, “They said they gave my brother a DG, not a minister, not an ambassador. They said they gave him DG, head of parastatal, chairman of a committee. They don’t give him ministers or ambassadors.”
He also compared the appointment with that of Reno Omokri, saying, “Even Reno Omokri sef, they gave him ambassador. They couldn’t give my brother ambassador. So why only chairman of a parastatal?”
Isaac further suggested the timing of the appointment was linked to a recent visit by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying, “They gave my brother DG since Obi paid me a visit on Saturday. So they replied, ‘No, we must join that family.'”
He recalled that Ayo Fayose had always maintained he would return to private business after leaving office rather than seek another government position.
“But my brother, Ayodele Peter Fayose, informed me, ‘Isaac, when I leave this government home, I will not be a minister, DG, senator, or anything. I’ll handle my business,'” he said.
Describing his brother as financially successful long before entering politics, Isaac called the appointment a “Greek gift” and questioned why it came only now.
“I know you won’t take this. But if you accept it, who am I? Who am I? Omo Oba,” he said.
While congratulating Ayo Fayose, he advised him to reject the role and pass it on to his son instead.
“Congratulations on your appointment. You should give your son. Please do not use that type of appointment. You’re too big for that. Afobaje ni e,” he said. The Yoruba phrase translates to “You are a kingmaker.”
