The remains of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo have arrived in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, ahead of his wake-keep ceremony scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Family members, friends and sympathisers gathered to receive the actor’s body as preparations continued for the wake at the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family residence in Ujari Village, Arochukwu. The wake-keep is one of the final rites announced by his family following his death in May.

Ekubo, who died at the age of 40 after battling kidney cancer, will be laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, after a funeral service at Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu. Interment will take place at his family compound, while a reception is expected to follow immediately after the burial.

The actor’s burial rites began earlier this month with a Service of Songs held in Lagos, where colleagues, fans and other well-wishers paid tribute to his life and career.

Ekubo was widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most beloved actors, starring in numerous romantic comedies and drama films throughout his career. His passing on May 11 left the Nigerian entertainment industry in mourning, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the country.
