Rauf Aregbesola, the national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has revealed that he has remained sexually faithful to his wife, Sherifat, throughout their marriage.
The former Osun State governor made the disclosure during an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking in Yoruba, Aregbesola explained that his decision to stay faithful to his wife was tied to a personal promise he made to God as part of his religious commitment.
He told the gathering that while such a declaration might be unusual for many men, he had maintained his faithfulness because of a prayer and request he made to God.
“Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it. What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife,” Aregbesola said.
He added, “I told God that next June, we must do it at the government house.”
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, is among the major contenders in the race.
He is being challenged by Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Folasayo Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
