Barcelona have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign Germany international Karim Adeyemi.
The La Liga champions will pay an initial €22 million (£18.7m), with additional performance-based bonuses and a sell-on clause included in the agreement after Dortmund rejected an opening €20 million offer.
Although the transfer has not been officially completed, all parties are optimistic the remaining formalities will be concluded in the coming days.
Sporting director Deco has continued overseeing Barcelona’s transfer business while in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup.
Adeyemi joins after spending four seasons at Borussia Dortmund, where he built a reputation as one of the Bundesliga’s fastest and most versatile attackers.
The 23-year-old played an important role in Dortmund’s run to the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League final, starting eight matches before the German side lost to Real Madrid at Wembley.
Last season, Adeyemi was mainly deployed as a central striker, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
Aston Villa had also been linked with the forward, but Barcelona moved decisively to secure his signature.
He becomes Barcelona’s second major attacking addition of the summer following Anthony Gordon’s arrival from Newcastle United.
The club freed up space in the squad after Robert Lewandowski departed for Chicago Fire and chose not to make Marcus Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United permanent.
Despite signing two attacking players, Barcelona are still interested in bringing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez to the club.
