Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stepped down from participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, saying his decision was driven by sacrifice, reflection, and consultations.

In a statement he personally signed on Wednesday night titled “My decision to withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries,” the Rivers State governor announced his withdrawal while pledging to support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s flagbearer.

Fubara explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates, adding that the interest of Rivers State must come before personal ambition.

According to him, leadership sometimes requires difficult choices, including stepping aside for the sake of peace, stability, and unity in the state.

He expressed appreciation to his supporters who had invested time, resources, and prayers in his political journey, acknowledging that many of them may feel disappointed by his withdrawal.

Fubara noted that his silence in recent times was intentional and guided by what he described as the broader interest of Rivers people, stressing that not every political matter is meant for public discussion.

He also used the opportunity to thank the APC for providing him a platform during the process, as well as commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the party, the governor urged members and supporters to remain united and focused as the APC continues its preparations ahead of the election.

He maintained that his decision to step down was not borne out of fear or weakness, but a deliberate sacrifice aimed at promoting unity and progress in Rivers State, adding that he remains committed to serving the people for the remainder of his tenure.
