Former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has landed in Istanbul as he closes in on completing a move to Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor.
The Egyptian forward arrived wearing a Trabzonspor jersey and was welcomed by hundreds of excited supporters at Atatürk Airport after the club confirmed on Tuesday that he would travel on to Trabzon to finalise the transfer.
In a video shared on Trabzonspor’s official social media pages before his arrival, Salah greeted the club’s fans, saying: “Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you. See you very soon.”
The 34-year-old became a free agent after leaving Liverpool this summer, ending a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield. During his time with the Reds, he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances and helped the club win two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
Salah attracted interest from several clubs following his departure from Liverpool, including fellow Turkish side Beşiktaş, but Trabzonspor appear to have won the race for his signature.
If completed, the transfer would rank among the biggest signings in Trabzonspor’s history as the club looks to build on its most recent Turkish league triumph in 2022, having previously enjoyed a dominant era between 1976 and 1984.
