A Nigerian woman has emotionally recounted how she allegedly lost ₦10 million she had painstakingly saved through an ajo contribution scheme after the organisers reportedly failed to pay her when it was time to receive her money.
In a tearful video circulating online, the entrepreneur said the savings represented months of relentless work and were intended solely to expand her business.
“I never knew that a time would come I would make this kind of video. For some people, the money might be small, but I know how hard I have worked. I know the plans I had for that money,” she said.
She explained that she sacrificed a lot to build up the fund, stressing that she was not saving for luxury or personal pleasure.
“I wasn’t even saving for a vacation. I wasn’t even saving to buy a car. The only reason I was saving was just to grow my business, was just to expand. All I needed was just funds,” she added.
The woman claimed that after contributing since last year, the organisers allegedly refused to release her ₦10 million when it became her turn to collect.
She said the painful part was not only the financial loss but also the dreams and business plans she had attached to the money.
“And just like that, the money I’ve been saving since last year, a whole ₦10 million, has gone. It’s not even about the money; it’s the hope… Someone just decided to rob me of all my expectations, all my hope, all my plans,” she lamented.
Her emotional account has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians sympathising with her ordeal while urging people to be careful when joining informal thrift and contribution schemes.
