Nigerian DJ and entrepreneur Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has opened up about the frequent marriage questions she gets from her family, joking that her academic pursuits have become a way of avoiding the pressure.

Cuppy made the revelation while discussing her education, career and philanthropic activities in an interview with Marie Claire.

The entertainer, who has earned several academic qualifications over the years, said her grandmother often asks when she intends to get married. Rather than dwell on the question, Cuppy said she simply responds by showing off another certificate.

She jokingly described her continued pursuit of education as a form of “avoidance of marriage,” while making it clear that potential suitors are not lacking.

According to Cuppy, she receives marriage proposals regularly, and the attention does not only come from her fans.

“I call it avoidance of marriage.

“Every time my grandma asks, ‘Where’s your husband?’, I show her a new certificate,” she said.

She added: “I get marriage proposals every day. And I’m not even talking about fans.

“Everyone is apparently trying to help me when I have not asked to be helped.”
