Family members, friends, colleagues and admirers of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo gathered in Lagos on Wednesday, June 10, for a Service of Songs held in his honour.
The memorial event took place at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki and attracted several figures from the entertainment industry who came to pay their respects and celebrate the actor’s life and career.
The gathering served as the first major funeral event ahead of Ekubo’s final burial, which is scheduled to take place on June 18 in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State.
The actor passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 following a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer, according to family announcements. News of his death sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and well-wishers across the country.
During his career, Ekubo became one of Nollywood’s most recognised faces, earning praise for his performances in numerous movies and for his strong presence both on and off the screen.
Beyond acting, he was also known for his humanitarian efforts and the positive relationships he maintained within the entertainment industry.
As tributes continued to pour in at the service, many attendees remembered him as a kind-hearted, generous and faith-driven individual whose impact extended far beyond his acting career.
His burial rites are expected to conclude with his interment in Abia State next week.
