Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has expressed deep concern over the worsening economic situation in Nigeria, lamenting the rising cost of basic food items and the impact it is having on ordinary citizens.

In a video shared online, the actress said she is usually not one to complain publicly, but admitted that recent experiences have left her unsettled by how difficult daily living has become.

She highlighted the sharp increase in the prices of essential food items such as tomatoes and pepper, noting that what once cost little now takes a significant portion of many people’s income.

Ruth Kadiri said:

“Good morning Nigerians, as a human being I’m not one that is known for complaining but you see this past couple of days has been so troubling for me because if somebody like me can start to feel the brunt of the heaviness of being a human being is I wonder what other people are going through cost of tomatoes is now so hard like somebody will use five thousand buy pepper tomato like five thousand while somebody else out there is probably earning 25 30 40 50k…”

She further stressed that the rising cost of feeding is becoming unbearable for many households, warning that continued hardship could lead to frustration and emotional strain among citizens.

“The cost of feeding which is basic in Nigeria is now so high… I don’t know if they want us to turn against ourselves because people that are not sensitive will start looking at ourselves as the enemies. Poverty what poverty does to people’s mind is like cancer to the mind to the brain it eats it away,” she added.

Kadiri said she woke up feeling saddened by the situation and sympathised with Nigerians struggling to cope with inflation and economic pressure.

She also noted that financial hardship can easily translate into anger and tension within families and communities as people fight to survive.
