Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reaffirmed his pledge to serve only a single four-year term if elected president, insisting he would not remain in office beyond that period under any condition.

He made the comment in a preview clip from an interview scheduled to air on News Central TV on Thursday.

“I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day, with a gun to my head, longer than four years,” he said in the circulating video.

Obi maintained that his stance is rooted in the need for political stability and disciplined leadership, stressing that the promise is absolute and not open to negotiation.

He also criticised the current administration’s economic management, pointing to rising national debt and the escalating cost of living, which he described as evidence of one of the most difficult economic periods the country has faced in recent years.
