Henry Okoye, one of the older siblings of Peter and Paul Okoye, has shared his side of the story concerning the prolonged dispute involving the former P-Square members and their elder brother, Jude Okoye.
In an interview, Henry said the situation had left him deeply troubled, particularly because he had witnessed the brothers’ journey from their early days in music to the height of their success.
He explained that the Okoye family consists of eight children — six boys and two girls — with Peter and Paul among the youngest. According to him, he and other siblings played a major role in supporting the twins when they were still trying to establish themselves in the music industry.
Henry recalled taking Peter and Paul to performances in Jos and travelling with them during their early career. He said he and his friends sometimes served as their bodyguards, while the brothers also relied on his car and other family support as they moved from one state to another for performances.
He stressed that Jude was not part of the journey at that stage, claiming that he became involved only after Peter and Paul had begun gaining recognition and earning money from their music.
Henry said the family eventually agreed to let Jude manage the duo, despite their mother’s initial opposition. He claimed their mother was reluctant because she already knew Jude’s character, but another older sibling persuaded her to give him the opportunity.
According to Henry, problems within the family became more noticeable as P-Square’s success grew. He alleged that Peter and Paul gradually became distant from other relatives, although the family initially struggled to understand what was responsible for the change.
He said he personally never cared about the money generated by P-Square and was simply proud whenever he heard about his brothers’ achievements.
Henry also revealed that his relationship with Jude had deteriorated considerably. He claimed they had not spoken for about one to two years and alleged that Jude did not contact him even when he spent two months in hospital, while Peter and Paul called to check on him.
He further expressed concern about the welfare of another sister living in Lagos, saying the situation had made him question the level of care and unity that remained within the family.
While discussing Paul, Henry described him as one of the nicest members of the Okoye family but said he was surprised by the changes he had noticed in him over the years.
Towards the end of the interview, Henry made his most serious comments about Jude, directly blaming him for some of the problems that developed within the family.
He said Jude was absent during the early stages of Peter and Paul’s music career, adding that his involvement came after the twins had already started making progress.
Henry said:
“When they started this music, they were looking for sponsors. We didn’t get sponsors. When I started sponsoring them, Jude was not there.”
He also recalled taking the twins to one of their early performances in Jos.
“When Best in the Edge came to Jos, looking for artists, I carried them to the stadium for the performance. After the performance, they took first. When they took first, Jude was not there.”
On Jude’s eventual involvement, he said:
“Before we could know it, Jude came in. Wanted to manage them. So we allowed Jude to manage them.”
Henry also recalled his mother’s initial resistance to the arrangement, saying:
“Before then, my mom disagreed. The one that is senior than P-Square directly begged my mom she should allow Jude. My mom said she knew Jude very well.”
He added that his mother understood the kind of person Jude was before eventually agreeing to let him manage the duo.
Addressing the changes he believed occurred within the family, Henry said:
“But when I was coming to find out the way things are going on, I said, ah, before you know it, they start running away from everybody. We never knew that it’s Jude that is causing the problem.”
He then made his strongest accusation against his elder brother:
“Jude is never a good person. He’s my brother, but he’s very bad. I’m telling you the truth, Jude is very bad. He’s not a nice person.”
On their current relationship, Henry said:
“For now, almost a year to two years, I’m not talking to Jude. He doesn’t talk to me. Even when I’m sick in the hospital last year, I was admitted in the hospital for two months, but Jude knew. Peter used to call me, Paul used to call me, but Jude never called me for once.”
And speaking about Paul’s personality, he said:
“In our family, Paul is the nicest person.”
However, Henry added that he was surprised by the changes he had seen in Paul, saying he did not know how to explain what had happened to his younger brother.
“Jude is my brother, but he is a very bad person. He is very w!ck£d. I was the one who started sponsoring Psquare when they had nothing. Jude only came in when Psquare started making money and said he wanted to manage them”
