Actor and politician Desmond Elliot has stated that honesty remains the foundation of his service in government, maintaining that he has never stolen public funds while serving in office.
The lawmaker, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the remarks while reflecting on his journey in politics and the impact of his administration on the constituency.
According to Elliot, one of the accomplishments he values most is the improvement in electricity supply across Surulere. He recalled that the area once suffered from poor power supply but has witnessed remarkable progress over the years.
“I’ll say power. If you look at Surulere 10 years ago, it was a horrible place to live in. Today, electricity is one of the best you can find anywhere else,” he said.
Speaking further, Elliot urged political leaders to remain humble and connected to the people they serve, stressing that positions of authority are temporary.
“We will all die one day. We are not here forever. You are in that particular place for a reason, not because you are better than the next person. Trust me, there are way better people than you,” he stated.
The actor-turned-lawmaker emphasized that public office should be seen as an opportunity to serve rather than a platform for personal gain.
