Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, has reiterated his claim that he won the 2023 presidential election but was not declared the winner.
Speaking during an interview with Rufai Oseni, the former Anambra State governor said he remains convinced that the official result did not reflect the outcome of the election.
Obi said he believes history will eventually vindicate him, insisting that he emerged victorious despite the declaration made by the electoral authorities.
“Do you know that in the last election I won? Forget about the proof, they didn’t declare me.
“I have contested elections in Nigeria as a presidential candidate and won, leave what’s declared because one day the story will be told.
“For now, I can tell you that I’m offering myself for the general election in Nigeria. One day, the process will recognise it,” he said.
Obi contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finished second and Obi came third according to the official results.
