Idris Elba has been officially knighted by King Charles III during a ceremony held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.
The Golden Globe-winning actor, who was previously named in the New Year Honours list, received the prestigious title in recognition of his services to young people and community development.
The honour follows the establishment of the Elba Hope Foundation four years ago, through which the actor has focused on education, youth empowerment, and sustainable community initiatives.
Elba, widely known for his role in Luther, has increasingly expanded his work beyond film and television, with a strong emphasis on philanthropy and creating opportunities for younger generations.
He is also set to collaborate with King Charles on a documentary marking the 50th anniversary of The Prince’s Trust, now known as The King’s Trust.
The project is particularly meaningful for Elba, who benefited from support from the charity at age 18. A grant from the organisation enabled him to attend the National Youth Music Theatre, an experience he has credited with helping launch his career.
