Media personality Toke Makinwa has opened up about her dating experiences, saying she has never been in a relationship where a man asked her for money.
The TV host made the revelation during a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, featuring reality TV star Mercy Eke, while discussing women who financially support their partners.
Reflecting on the conversations, Makinwa said she often wonders why none of the men she has dated ever requested financial help from her.
“When I hear women say these things, I sit down and I ask myself, why don’t men ask me for money? Men don’t ask me for money,” she said.
She jokingly suggested that the way she talks about her own personal struggles may discourage men from making such requests.
“Maybe there is something on my head. Maybe because before you ask me, I’m already giving you all my problems? As soon as you say how are you? Today I have a headache.’ Maybe that’s why.”
Makinwa added that even men she had dated who were not financially comfortable still never asked her for money.
“I’ve never dated a guy who has ever asked me for money. Even if I date a broke guy, he earns 5K, at least 3K out of that money he’ll give it to me.”
She concluded by saying she sees it as a blessing and made it clear that any man who asks her for money would automatically end the relationship.
“I’m thankful for that grace though, because I’ve never, ever, ever dated a guy that has confidently asked me for money. The day you do, you’ll never hear from me again.”
“I struggle to understand when women say they financially support a man.
if I date a broke guy who earns ₦5,000, he must give me ₦3,000 from it or I’ll ghost him.”
