Nigerian rapper YCee has clarified that he has no intention of trademarking or profiting from the now-viral phrase “Olodo Uprising,” stressing that he was not the one who coined it.

The phrase, which gained widespread attention after YCee used it while criticising what he described as the growing celebration of anti-intellectualism and referencing content creators such as Peller, has since dominated conversations across Nigeria’s entertainment industry and social media.

Addressing the growing buzz on X, the rapper explained that the expression had been circulating on Twitter since last year before he popularised it.

“Also, I didn’t coin the phrase ‘olodo uprising’; it’s been circulating on Twitter since last year.

“No, I’m not going to ‘trademark’ the phrase.

“No, I’m not going to ‘make a song’ about the phrase.

“No, I will not be making ‘merch’ centered around the phrase.”

YCee’s statement comes amid continued debate over the phrase, which has sparked discussions about social media culture, education and the kind of content being celebrated in Nigeria.
