FIFA president Gianni Infantino is reportedly preparing to meet with senior FIFA officials in Morocco as he intensifies efforts to consolidate support from football associations.
Reports indicate that Infantino has been lobbying FIFA Member Associations, with countries in Asia viewed as particularly important in securing the backing he needs.
Prince Ali Al Hussein has accused those seeking votes of using methods that “amount to blackmail,” raising concerns over the campaign.
At the same time, FIFA General Secretary Mattias Grafström and FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger have publicly expressed opposition to Infantino’s FIFA Forward Enterprise proposals.
The FIFA chief is said to be assessing whether he still commands the support of more than 106 votes before deciding on his next course of action.
While several football federations have requested additional time before making a decision, the Swiss Football Association has asked for a face-to-face discussion with Infantino before revealing its stance.
