Jurgen Klopp is set to make a return to management after agreeing to become the new head coach of Germany’s national team following the country’s disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development with his signature “Here we go!”, indicating that the agreement has been finalised.
Klopp replaces Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down after Germany’s shock Round of 16 exit at the World Cup. The four-time champions were eliminated by Paraguay in a penalty shootout, marking the first time Germany have ever lost a World Cup shootout.
The disappointing result brought an abrupt end to Germany’s campaign and led to Nagelsmann’s departure from the role.
Before accepting the national team job, Klopp was serving as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull. However, the opportunity to lead his country’s senior team convinced the former Liverpool manager to return to the dugout.
Speaking to Magenta TV, Klopp acknowledged that discussions over the appointment had taken place, adding that negotiations progressed rapidly as he prepared to take charge of a new chapter in German football.
