Kamo State has set the record straight on rumours suggesting he is no longer on good terms with actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, describing the claims as false.

In an interview with BBC Yoruba, the skit maker explained that the reason fans no longer see them together as often is because both of them are now occupied with separate projects, not because their relationship has changed.

Speaking about how they became close, Kamo said he had always admired Funke Akindele long before they met. He recalled meeting her for the first time on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa, where her kindness towards him inspired him to start calling her “mummy.”

He said:

«“Before I met her, she had been like a role model to me; I love very much. The first time I saw her in person was on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa. I started calling her mummy because of how she treated me on set.»

«We are still together, even closer. But now she is very busy with her December project, which didn’t give her a chance. I am also not the same as I used to be last year, and her prayer is that I should also always be called to work on projects.»

«Actress is a very good person to me and my family.”»

Kamo maintained that there is no misunderstanding between them, stressing that their friendship remains strong despite their demanding schedules. He also praised Funke for consistently supporting his career and wishing him continued success in the entertainment industry.
