A light-hearted moment stole the spotlight during Peller and Jarvis’ court wedding after the groom reacted in disbelief to a legal warning about bigamy.
Before the couple exchanged their vows, the acting registrar explained the laws governing marriage, including that anyone who marries another person while still legally married commits bigamy, an offence that carries a minimum five-year jail term without the option of a fine.
The warning surprised Peller, who immediately burst into laughter and paused the ceremony to ask why a marriage celebration suddenly involved talk of prison.
