The Kano State House of Assembly has endorsed the appointment of Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state, following his screening at plenary.
The session, presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore, saw lawmakers review and deliberate on the nomination before reaching a decision.
Chairman of the ad hoc screening committee and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, explained that Garo was nominated to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He stated that the screening exercise was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to confirm a replacement in the event of such a vacancy.
During the exercise, Garo responded to questions covering his academic qualifications, professional background, knowledge of governance, and his plans for Kano State. His credentials were also thoroughly examined by the committee.
According to the panel, the nominee demonstrated a firm grasp of the responsibilities of the office and outlined his readiness to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
After reviewing its findings, the committee recommended his confirmation, which was subsequently approved by the House.
