The Lagos State Government has arrested 45 suspected street beggars, including adults and minors, in separate enforcement operations carried out across different parts of the state.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday.

He said the first operation was conducted in Oshodi and Agege, where enforcement officials apprehended 22 persons, including adults and teenagers found engaging in street begging.

In a second exercise carried out at CMS, officials also arrested 23 individuals, comprising 14 adults and nine children.

He stated:

“Earlier today, in a separate enforcement operation, our team apprehended 22 beggars at Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers.

“Additionally, 14 adults and 9 children were apprehended at CMS,” Wahab stated.

Wahab added that similar clearance exercises were ongoing in other areas of the state, including Admiralty Way in Lekki and Addo Road in Ajah, as part of efforts to maintain environmental order and improve public safety.

According to the government, the operations form part of a broader drive to curb street begging and other activities considered to be environmental infractions in Lagos.
