Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has been picked as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 general election following the party’s primary held in Ibadan.
He was formally handed the party’s flag and Certificate of Return during a ceremony at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The event saw the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, announce Makinde’s emergence after delegates unanimously endorsed his candidacy.
Prior to the presentation, Dantalle consulted the 36 state chairmen of the party, asking them to approve whether Makinde should represent the APM in the 2027 presidential race. The decision was confirmed through a voice vote.
After the exercise, Dantalle described the process as a significant turning point for the party and a reflection of what he called the “Reset Nigerian Movement.”
He noted that Makinde’s selection followed a smooth and peaceful primary and pointed to a growing alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APM, and Nigerians seeking a new political direction.
While presenting the party flag, he commended Makinde’s performance in Oyo State, describing him as an experienced leader whose administration has been focused on improving governance and citizens’ welfare.
