Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that he will defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Makinde made the declaration on Monday in Ibadan while receiving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who defected to the APM.
The defectors, led by Ajiboye Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, were drawn from several local government areas across Oyo State. The development was announced during the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Addressing the gathering, Makinde said he was confident of victory because he believed God, residents of Oyo State and Nigerians generally were behind the APM.
He also urged the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to direct his attention towards the APM candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, rather than focusing on criticism of his administration.
Makinde said the entry of the APC members into the APM demonstrated what he described as growing support for his party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“God has signed off on what we are doing, and that is why it is raining.
“Today, we are welcoming thousands of APC members into the Allied People’s Movement (APM), and this shows that our victory is only a matter of time. We will win massively in all elections in 2027.”
The governor’s remarks came as the APM continues its preparations for the 2027 presidential election. The party formally commMinister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has opened up on the circumstances surrounding Peter Obi’s failure to win the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State.
DAILY POST reports that there have been allegations that the outcome of the polls, particularly in Rivers State, was manipulated to favour the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Peter Obi, who was the presidential flagbearer of the Labour Party in the last election, had instead claimed that he won the election in Rivers State.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News on Monday, Wike said he and members of the defunct G-5 governors stopped Peter Obi from winning the state.enced its presidential campaign activities earlier this month, with Makinde as its candidate.
Makinde has previously outlined his campaign platform under the “Reset Nigeria” agenda, including proposals relating to the economy, energy and the petroleum sector.
The latest gathering also brought together several APM candidates and party officials as the party builds its campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde’s declaration that he will defeat Tinubu is his political prediction about the outcome of the election; the actual result will be determined by voters at the polls.
