Manchester United edged out Chelsea with a narrow 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, thanks to a first-half goal from Matheus Cunha in a fiercely contested Premier League encounter.

The breakthrough arrived just before halftime in the 43rd minute, as Cunha met a well-timed pass from Bruno Fernandes and calmly finished into the bottom corner to give United the advantage.

Chelsea controlled much of the game and carved out several chances but were let down by poor finishing and a solid United backline. The home side came close on a number of occasions, with Liam Delap and Wesley Fofana both hitting the woodwork.

Despite applying sustained pressure and registering more efforts on target, Chelsea were unable to find a way past United’s resilient defence, especially during a tense second half.

Tempers flared late on as Chelsea pushed forward in search of an equaliser, leading to multiple bookings, but United held their ground and dealt effectively with dangerous situations.

The victory gives Manchester United a valuable lift, while Chelsea will be left frustrated after failing to make their dominance count.
