Real Madrid have ended speculation over Vinicius Jr’s future after confirming the Brazilian forward has signed a fresh contract that will keep him at the club until 2032.
The new six-year agreement was announced on Thursday, bringing an end to uncertainty surrounding the 26-year-old, who had entered the final year of his previous deal and had been linked with Arsenal.
Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Vinicius wrote: “Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short… Six more years, and then forever.”
Real Madrid praised the winger in a statement, describing him as one of the club’s most influential players during one of the most successful periods in its history.
Reports indicate contract negotiations had dragged on for months before Madrid submitted an improved offer on Wednesday, paving the way for both sides to reach an agreement.
Vinicius joined the Spanish giants from Flamengo in 2018 and had already signed one contract extension in 2023. Discussions over a new deal had continued for about 18 months before the latest renewal was finalised.
After returning from Brazil’s World Cup campaign, the forward resumed pre-season training with Real Madrid earlier this week.
Since arriving at the Bernabéu, Vinicius has scored 128 goals in 375 appearances and has won two UEFA Champions League trophies, three La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey. He has also scored 13 goals in 54 appearances for Brazil.
Arsenal were reportedly ready to step up their interest if he had decided against renewing his contract, but the extension means the Premier League champions must now turn their attention to other left-wing options.
The announcement came on the same day Real Madrid unveiled the signing of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to €140 million.
