Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated vehicles to women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in five states currently governed by opposition parties.
She announced the gesture on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Tinubu Torchbearers, a pro-Tinubu support group, held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
The beneficiaries are APC women leaders in Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun and Oyo states.
According to the First Lady, the vehicles will be delivered before the end of the week and will belong personally to the recipients rather than the party.
“To all our women leaders in states where we do not have APC governors but have committed party members, your vehicles will be ready before the end of the week.
“The vehicles are your personal vehicles. You are not giving them to the party. Register them in your names and use them for the service of the party and your communities,” she said.
Oluremi also appealed to APC governors across the country to support women leaders in their states with vehicles and other resources to enhance their political and community engagements.
She stressed that empowering women remains a key part of the APC’s vision, noting that women continue to play a vital role in grassroots mobilisation and strengthening the party’s structures.
The First Lady further described the APC as a party committed to democratic values, saying its internal processes have shown that politics can be practised without hostility.
“I urge our governors to buy vehicles for their women leaders. We are not playing politics like before. We are politicians, and people should see the value in us,” she added.
She also encouraged members of the Tinubu Torchbearers to actively promote the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and engage citizens responsibly ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the event, APC National Women Leader, Mary Alile-Idele, called on women nationwide to intensify grassroots mobilisation in support of President Tinubu’s programmes.
She revealed that the Tinubu Torchbearers had established structures across all 774 local government areas of the country to help promote government initiatives and encourage citizen participation.
Alile-Idele also praised the administration’s reforms and the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative, saying the programmes have positively impacted women, youths, persons living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through various empowerment schemes.
